Planning of Double Page Spread
I have planned my double page spread using InDesign. I presented the layout stating where the text and two pictures will be laid out.
In addition, I used the grab tool to grab the specific part I wanted that was on the screen and inserted the image as a j-peg.

Finished Contents Design
Fith Stage of Contents Page
At this stage I have inserted an 'On the Cover' section where all the cover lines mentioned on the front cover are grouped together so that the reader can easily find the required article advertised that they would like to read.
On the front cover, the text that was made to be most important is about the new URBAN artist 'Prince.' Therefore, He is made out to stand out the most by using larger text of a yellow colour that contrasts with everything in the box.
The reader immediately know that this section is for the articles advertised on the front cover due to the image beside the text. I inserted this as a j-peg and alternated the picture by using free-transform.
Fourth Stage of Contents Page
At this stage I have added a music index for the magazine. It is alphabetical order of URBAN music artists therefore, if the viewer wanted to look up a particular artist it is easier for them to navigate them self round. The page numbers are all in the same font and color as well as the text creating a simple and effective column that is clear for the reader to understand.
I used text boxes again for 'Music Index' contrasting the heading from the rest of the page using the rectangular marque tool and horizontal tool for the text.
This is an image of what the contents page looks like so far. Throughout the my progression, my ideas have changed of what my contents should look like. Many features differ from my original plan as I believed this is an improved and more desirable way of laying out the page.

Third Stage of Contents Page
I have added text to the image, describing who the model is 'Cody Samuels.' This stands out from the page due to the house style of text boxes which strongly contrasts with the white, bold and capital font. Furthermore, the advertisement of 'URBAN'S Moment Of The Week' reinforces the name to catch the readers attention. The fact that he is the magazines moment of the week makes him seem more prominent. The yellow text matches the writing on the models top but also contrasts with the black text box.
I have inserted a short article below the picture, introducing the urban music artist. This is often used in contents pages within music magazines.

Second Stage of Contents
Within the second stage of producing my contents page, I inserted a colounm in the right hand side of the page. I kept the house style by using boxes for headings using the rectangular marque tool. Like in a real music magazine, my contents has been split up into sections. At this stage the two sections are 'News' and 'Reviews.'
To make the column easy to follow, I included larger text stating the topic for example 'MTV Awards,' and then included smaller text of a different font called 'Eurostyle' that is more basic and easier on the eye to read. This is a small description of the topic stated e.g. 'The brand new MTV Awards released. '
Towards the bottom of the page I included names of urban music artists in bold and CAPITALS to stand out from the rest of the text. It is a very quick and easy to follow, again following the house style.
Furthermore, I included an arrow to encourage the reader to turn over the page and read on. This strategy makes it hard for the reader to put down the magazine and not to turn over the page, as it is a human instinct to follow the direction of an arrow, unlike text.

First Stage of Contents
This is the first stage of my contents page. I laid out the page following the original plan.
I continued the box at the top like within the front cover. This was to keep the house style of the magazine. This was produced by drawing a box using the rectangular marque tool as with the features box and the large black box at the bottom of the page.
Similarly, I continued the same text 'allstar' from the front
cover for 'contents' and 'features' to also keep the house style.
To separate out the page using dotted lines I used the vertical writing tool and horizontal writing tool, and used full stops
I edited the picture using the the spot healing brush tool, as
well as changing the adjustments such as brightness and contrast.
I have altered the hue/saturation making the picture appear more dark.
In addtion, I altered the brightness and increased the contrast to make the picture more appealing that blends well with the rest of the contents page.

Planning of Contents
Contents Research
Some URBAN music magazines such as VIBE do not have a large contents, however other music magazines do. This is a contents page from 'NME.' The page consists of a series of pictures boxed in groups together. This technique separates different context of the magazine. The most important stories are highlighted by pictures and larger writing, standing out from the rest. Under each picture there is a caption to describe the music article. Other articles are advertised in the contents using one word with a number below to simply inform the reader of what it is but not what it is about. This also shows how specific music articles are made to be more important than each other.
Seventh Stage of Front Cover
Within the last stage I had added cover lines to the left side of the page using the same technique as before. I had drew boxes out using the rectangular marque tool and then inserted the text.
Specific words such as 'Inside Story' are made to stand out to attract the readers attention. Once the reader is attracted to this they are then encouraged to read the story as it almost feels as if it is secret and that they won't find it out anywhere else.
To finish of the magazine giving it a realistic look, I added the date, price and bar code as a picture.

Sixth Stage of Front Cover
Fith Stage of Front Cover
Within the 5th stage of production, I have added more cover lines to the front cover. Two names of urban music artists are advertised on the cover clearly standing out using two techniques. 'Sean Kingston' stands out as being the 'middle color' (black between red) where as 'Plan B' stands out by being in the largest font out of all the cover lines at the top of the page.
A plus sign was also added to link the two different cover lines on the page.

Fourth Stage of Front Cover
I have added cover lines to the magazine 'The New Prince had Swagger.' I used black text boxes setting the house style of the magazine so there is a repetition across the entire front cover.
Boxes were originally placed to lay out the cover lines following the original plan. words were then added afterward. I used the rectangular marque tool like before.
The font for 'Prince' and 'Swagger' appear to be rather fancy. The fact that they are the same and do not match the font on any where else on the page creates a link between the two words. Prince's are known as being rather grand and pontificate thus the words compliment each other making the story in the magazine believable and interesting to read.

Third Stage of Front Cover
Second Stage of Front Cover
I have added the title to the front cover. It is slightly behind the models head so when the viewer makes eye contact with the model, they are also attracted to look at the title as well. In addition, there the viewer almost feels that there is a connection between the model and urban music as they are touching rather than just having them as two separate components.
First Stage of Front Cover
This is the first stage in the design of my front cover. I have edited the picture cutting the model out and placing him on a new plain sheet. I then changed the increased contrast of the picture making the model stand out more than the original picture. This would attract attention to the reader.
Similarly, I also added to boxes at the top and bottom of the page using the rectangular marque tool. Names of urban music artists will be in here simply to add to the theme of the magazine.
